Summer Intern (Arlington Office)

Then please consider AJW, Inc.’s paid Summer Internship position, which will allow you to work on various energy and environmental policy issues with our passionate team.

AJW is one of the nation’s leading public affairs and strategic advisory firms for innovative technology market participants in the energy and the environment sectors. We provide strategic consulting, business development, and advocacy services to support companies ranging from startups to global multinationals – as well as NGOs, trade associations, and other organizations.

This position is aimed at rising junior and senior college students or recent college graduates in environmental studies, public policy, government affairs, etc.

The ideal start range is in May, with options for a time commitment between 16–20 hours a week for the duration of the college summer break or 4 months, and an option to extend depending on performance and other factors.

The start date and time commitments are flexible. This internship is paid by the hour and based on the applicant’s experience, qualifications, and time commitment.

The hourly wage range is $18–$20 per hour.


The Work Tasks

  • Research related to legislative, regulatory, and market matters at the US federal and state levels and targeted international jurisdictions
  • Topics may include but are not limited to renewable fuels, hydrogen, carbon capture and sequestration, electric vehicles, solar, industrial decarbonization, and local impact considerations related to client initiatives
  • Monitoring and taking notes on public regulatory workshops, legislative hearings, and other public-facing events
  • Drafting material for PowerPoint presentations, research briefings, letters, memos, and public comments
  • Collecting updates and drafting newsletters and alerts for clients

What We Ask of You

  • Genuine interest in climate, energy, and related policy issues
  • Environmental sciences, political science, economics, government, or another related course of study is preferred but not required
  • Strong, demonstrated writing and note-taking skills
  • Ability to perform comprehensive topic-based/secondary research
  • Self-motivated and self-disciplined, especially important for remote work
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Comfortable with MS Office Suite and Teams
  • The internship is a hybrid position. We will work closely with the successful candidate to find the right balance between in-person time at one of our offices combined with remote work to accommodate access and needs.
  • Although the position is hybrid, the candidate must live in one of the following states/jurisdictions: California, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia, or Washington, D.C.
  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship
