Energy Transition Associate

AJW is seeking a talented individual at the career entry level.

This position will be a dynamic, cross-cutting role that supports the firm’s staff and diverse client portfolio with a particular emphasis on work led by our Arlington, VA office. The successful candidate will work with clients seeking to define and accelerate market opportunities for decarbonization technologies.

Essential requirements include strong written and interpersonal communication skills, project coordination expertise, a passion for energy and environmental issues, and keen attention to detail. The position will involve internal project management, routine client contact, and participation in meetings with government officials, trade associations, and high-level industry leaders.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Monitor, track, research, and analyze related legislation, regulatory, and market matters.
  • Advise internal and external stakeholders on public affairs and policy analysis, working closely with the senior legislative partner.
  • Draft external communications such as PowerPoint presentations, research briefings, letters, memos, and public comments to explain complex environmental, energy, political, and legislative developments.
  • Take ownership of strategic projects and analysis; manage and monitor client project schedules, timelines, and milestones.
  • Develop and maintain tracking systems for client legislative and regulatory priorities.
  • Draft client updates and serve as a conduit for client communications.
  • Provide assistance to other AJW-Inc team members as needed, specifically including research and analysis of policy issues.

Relevant Background for this Position

  • Demonstrated passion for addressing climate change, environmental economics, social equity, or environmental justice
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Must possess the ability to resolve unusually complex problems and serve as spokesperson on projects.
  • Strong, demonstrated writing skills and comfortable with MS Office Suite
    Bachelor’s degree required; a graduate degree in a related field is strongly preferred
  • Legally permitted to work in the US. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship
  • Previous experience a plus in public policy preferred, especially related to energy or environmental legislation or regulation
