Our partner, Rich Kassel, was recently featured by the Cleantech Leaders Roundtable in their Humans of Cleantech series for a small idea that yielded big results.
“I’d leave the park feeling like a million bucks, and get to the office cursing every diesel bus and truck in the way. Often I would say, ‘Why doesn’t somebody do something about those darn buses?’ The light bulb went off one day, and I said, ‘I can do something about those buses.’ From that lightbulb moment, NRDC’s Dump Dirty Diesel campaign was created.”
Rich’s work almost two decades ago resonates today. As the longtime chair of EPA’s Mobile Sources Technical Review Subcommittee, Rich has provided independent advice and counsel on the agency’s transportation and air quality programs since 2016, including leading a two-year multi-stakeholder effort that resulted in the subcommittee’s Future of Mobility report, which helped shape the Biden administration’s Transportation Decarbonization Blueprint. At AJW, Rich works with startups, industry leaders, and environmental organizations in New York and at the federal level to help ensure that they succeed in decarbonizing the transportation sector.
Read more about how that light bulb moment translated into a groundbreaking environmental victory that transformed the air New Yorkers—and all of us—breathe.
