Research & Policy Intern

We provide strategic consulting, business development and advocacy services to support companies ranging from startups to global multi-nationals – as well as NGOs, trade associations, and other organizations engaged in accelerating decarbonization and the energy transition.

AJW is seeking an intern based near our Arlington, VA office.

The successful candidate is passionate about energy and environmental issues and will be responsible for a variety of functions in support of our client services. This position is aimed at recent college graduates or graduate-level students.

This position is aimed at recent college graduates or graduate-level students. The successful candidate will have a dynamic, cross-cutting role supporting multiple team members’ work and a diverse client portfolio. This internship will provide the opportunity to work on a variety of issues and for multiple client project teams. AJW’s team is passionate about helping our clients succeed in bringing private sector solutions to market to address the world’s most challenging energy and environmental problems. We are looking for an individual with a drive to learn and who shares our passion.

The ideal start date is June, with options for a time commitment between 16-20 hours a week. The start date and time commitment are flexible. This internship is paid, and the stipend will depend on experience and time commitment.

Primary Responsibilities

Manage and execute client-specific tasks for staff, including:

  • Research related to legislative, regulatory, and market matters. Topics may include but are not limited to, renewable fuels, hydrogen, carbon capture and sequestration, electric vehicles, and solar.
  • Additional research topic areas may include waste stream recycling and conversion, circular economy, and sustainability, coupled with emerging innovative technologies.
  • Monitoring and taking notes on public regulatory workshops, legislative hearings, and other public-facing engagements
  • Drafting material for PowerPoint presentations, research briefings, letters, memos, and public comment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in environmental sciences, political science, economics, or another related degree. Graduate student preferred.
  • Strong, demonstrated writing and note-taking skills
  • Ability to perform comprehensive topic-based/secondary research
  • Self-motivating and self-disciplined
  • Comfortable with MS Office Suite and Teams
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong interest in climate, energy, and policy issues
  • Hybrid position, with the ability to attend in-person meetings at the Arlington office
  • This position is not eligible for VISA sponsorship
